Every darts checkout from 170 down — the full finishing table

The complete list of dart finishes from 170 to 2: the best three-dart route for every score, which ones go out in two darts or one, and the seven scores that cannot be finished at all.

A leg of 501 is arithmetic until it is not. From 170 down you are no longer scoring, you are finishing — and the difference between a good player and a frustrated one is usually knowing, without thinking, which three darts to throw.

This table is every one of them. It is not typed out from memory: it is generated straight from the same code the app uses to suggest routes while you play, which brute-forces all combinations and ranks them the way a player would actually choose. So a route here is a route the app would show you.

How to read it

Darts are written the way they are called: T20 is a treble twenty, D16 a double sixteen, 25 the outer bull and BULL the fifty. Routes are ordered biggest setup dart first, which is the order you would throw them.

• Three darts — the route to throw with a fresh turn in your hand.
• Two darts — what is still on if your first dart went somewhere else.
• One dart — the scores that are simply a double, and nothing to think about.

The bogey numbers

Seven scores under 170 cannot be finished with three darts at all, however good you are: 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159. There is no combination that reaches them and ends on a double. If you are on one of these, the job is not to finish — it is to leave yourself something that can be.

The nine-darter

Nine darts is the perfect leg: 501 in three turns. The classic is two visits of treble twenty for 180 each, leaving 141, then T20, T19, D12. It is in the table below like anything else — 141 is a checkout, and one of the routes listed for it is the one that ends a perfect leg.
